This year, The Bookseller will be supporting The Book Trade Charity’s (BTBS) Winter Support Grants with its annual subscription campaign.
As part of the campaign, which launches 4th December, £20 of every annual subscription will be donated to the fund, which helps individuals and their families "through a period of radically increased household bills, heating, housing and travel costs, or the personal crisis of a broken washing machine or sudden family illness".
In addition, BTBS supports more than 60 people each month with regular grants, providing a means-tested monthly payment for people on a low-fixed income.
Each Christmas the charity makes an additional Winter Support Grant to those grantees to help people through the cold and expensive festive period.
A beneficiary of BTBS said: "The Book Trade Charity helped me at a time when long term ill-health and financial troubles felt overwhelming. The charity not only helped me to improve my life situation, they also gave me the opportunity to focus my energies on creating a better future for myself."
The Bookseller last supported the Book Trade Charity in December 2022, supporting their 185 Appeal, and the campaign that year raised £1,443 for the appeal.
Recipients of a Winter Support Grant said they "come at an important time with colleagues grateful to be able to buy advent calendars for the children or spend more on their heating during a cold snap".
Ian Chapman, BTBS chair said: "This winter there are many colleagues facing hardship and we are determined to provide a safety net for people when they need it most. Our work has grown exponentially over the past few years and your support helps us to answer every call and to continue with our vital work. I would like to thank all our supporters, friends and donors for keeping The Book Trade Charity front of mind this winter. We simply couldn’t do it without you."
Isobel Dixon, president of BTBS, said: "This year more companies and individuals have joined our annual giving programme and this simple, recurring donation is absolutely crucial to help us to plan as a small charity. We are so grateful to all our supporters and every penny really does make a difference."
