The Booksellers Association (BA) has appointed Ruth Hunter as its consumer publications editor.
After editing the BA’s Booktime magazine as a freelance, she now joins the organisation in a permanent role and will continue to work on the magazine as well as project managing the Christmas and Summer Books Catalogues.
Hunter will also look after publisher liaison, design and editorial, as well as bookseller liaison and communications, bringing together the BA’s book promotion work.
With Hunter’s appointment, the BA will now be running the Christmas and Summer Books Catalogue as BA-run projects (in conjunction with Gardners Books) and will no longer be operating the project as a joint venture with Nielsen.
Prior to the BA, Hunter has worked for Bertrams Books, editing Booktime and the Bertrams Christmas Catalogue. She joins the campaigns team, and will report to Emma Bradshaw, head of campaigns at the BA.
Meryl Halls, managing director at the Booksellers Association, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ruth to the team, and look forward to working with her on improving and re-energising the Books Catalogues projects. Having already edited Booktime and the Bertrams Christmas Catalogue, she is uniquely qualified for this role. Publishers will be hearing from her directly in due course about both our catalogues and about Booktime.”
Hunter commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining the BA. They are an amazing team to be a part of, and I am looking forward to producing the consumer catalogues, as well as continuing with Booktime magazine. I feel very lucky to be given the opportunity to follow my passion for books and literature, working with publishers, authors and booksellers, in such a friendly environment.”
