The Common Press, East London’s queer bookshop, café, and events space, is becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC) and seeking to raise £100,000 with the support of its community and new investors.
By becoming a CIC, the aim is that The Common Press’ profits can "benefit the community directly". This will also improve the bookshop’s access to grants and funding.
A crowdfunding campaign has been launched by the bookshop to help meet its target and continue running "a sanctuary for storytelling and queer culture".
The Common Press holds over 7,000 curated books and hosts a variety of events, including book launches, workshops and social gatherings.
