Johanna Thomas-Corr has been appointed as the new literary editor of the Sunday Times, following Andrew Holgate’s decision to leave the post after working on the magazine’s book pages for 23 years.
Thomas-Corr has been a regular feature writer and reviewer for the Sunday Times, Times, Observer, Financial Times, New Statesman and Evening Standard.
Laura Hackett has been promoted to deputy literary editor. Holgate’s last day will be 14th October. Thomas-Corr begins her role on 2nd January 2023.
Posting on Twitter, Thomas-Corr described the new role as “the best job in books journalism” adding: "It’s a real honour to be following in the footsteps of so many fine editors.
“I’m excited to be working with a group of brilliant book reviewers, an excellent culture team and our many partners in the publishing world."
She said she looked forward to “building on the legacy” of Holgate “who has given me many of my best opportunities” and she was “delighted” to be editing the section alongside Hackett.
“We hope to produce the most spirited, the most interesting, and the most authoritative books section — and to have fun along the way!"
Holgate, who steps down this week, also tweeted his congratulations: “This is such good news, and Johanna will be brilliant as the new Sunday Times literary editor. As will Laura Hackett as deputy literary editor. A great team….”
