The m.d. of publisher Tiny and Tim has paid tribute to Grace Cook, who has passed away unexpectedly.
Cook had worked in the industry for more than 40 years as a royalty manager and a financial manager. She passed away on 17th June 2022.
“She was both loved and respected by colleagues across the industry as well as innumerable authors and illustrators,” Tiny and Tim m.d. George Scudder said.
Cook worked for Michael O’Mara, HarperCollins, Hachette Children’s Books, Lawrence King Publishing, Bowker, Working Partners, Peters Fraser + Dunlop and, in her final role, for The Poetry School, where this year’s Ginkgo Prize is dedicated to her memory. Poetry was her passion, and the school is also inaugurating an MA Scholarship for a Black, indigenous and people of colour poet in her name.
Scudder added: “Of Nigerian heritage and a proud south Londoner, she was meticulous, tenacious and also immensely kind. Quietly bringing order to chaos was her undoubted skill, facing every challenge head-on.”
She leaves behind her husband of 22 years, Tim, joint m.d. of Tiny and Tim, and her three brothers. A memorial event will be held later in the year. Friends and colleagues wishing to attend should contact info@tinyandtim.com.
