Titan Books will publish the supernatural-themed debut novel by Cambridge University librarian and writer Marian Womack as part of a two book deal.
The deal for world English rights was struck between Titan Books’ editor Sophie Robinson and Alexander Cochran at the C&W agency.
The book will be published as lead titles over two years. Starting with the February 2020 publication of The Golden Key, billed as a “a gothic supernatural mystery in the vein of Sarah Waters” by the publisher, followed by the late 2021 publication of The Swimmers, “a near-future novella set in Andalusia”. Womack joins Titan Books’ expanding literary crossover and speculative fiction list, alongside authors such as Nina Allan, Helen Marshall, and M L Rio.
Robinson said: “I am thrilled that Marian and her extraordinary work are joining us at Titan Books. Both The Golden Key and The Swimmers are truly unique works that mark Marian as a literary talent to watch.”
Womack commented: “I am overjoyed to be working with such a strong editor at Titan and I look forward to bringing these stories into the world. These two novels deal with places that have formed me and inspired me, and nourished my roots as a writer.”
Womack is a bilingual writer and a postgraduate researcher at the Anglia Ruskin Centre for Science Fiction and Fantasy. She works as a teaching librarian for Cambridge University and co-runs a small press. She has also worked as a translator, editor and bookseller.
