The Edinburgh store is the fourth Topping & Co bookshop after Robert and Louise Topping opened their first bookshop in Ely, Cambridgeshire in 2002, followed by a Bath bookshop in 2007 and a St Andrews branch in 2014.
Earlier this year Robert and Louise's son Hugh Topping, who will head up the store with his sister Cornelia and Duncan Furness, said the new shop "will be the largest independent bookshop to open in the country for decades."
The Grade A-listed William Playfair building will feature Topping's signature rolling library ladders and complimentary pots of tea and coffee.
Authors including Ian Rankin, David Baldacci and Mary Paulson-Ellis have already stopped by to sign books ahead of the first day of trading.
