Bloomsbury Publishing’s trading for the four months ended 30th June 2024 has been in line with the recently upgraded expectations. The publisher’s board considers current consensus market expectation for the year ending 28th February 2025 to be revenue of £319.3m and profit before taxation and highlighted items of £37.6m.
This news comes after the acquisition of Rowman and Littlefield’s academic publishing business, which took place in May and was the publisher’s largest deal to date.
The announcement was made ahead of the company’s Annual General Meeting today.
Consumer bestsellers in the period include Sarah J Maas’ titles across the Crescent City, Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses series. J K Rowling’s Harry Potter series and Cixin Liu’s The Three Body Problem, which is now also a Netflix series, are also among the publisher’s bestsellers, alongside Stuart Turton’s The Last Murder at the End of the World, among others.
The Non-Consumer division has seen continued growth in Bloomsbury Digital Resources (BDR). Following Bloomsbury’s acquisition of Rowman and Littlefield’s academic publishing business, the enlarged Academic business will focus on wider international sales, subject area expansion and innovation in digital scholarship and learning. The publisher has said that organic growth will accelerate BDR from 2023/2024’s revenue of £27m to its increased BDR revenue target for 2027/28 of £41m.
