Transworld Publishers has announced the appointment of Lauren Whelan as non-fiction publisher.
Whelan is currently publisher at Yellow Kite Books and Catalyst, the imprint she founded in 2023. She will join Transworld in March 2025 and will report into Kimberley Young, Transworld’s m.d.
During her time at Hodder and Yellow Kite, Whelan has published 15 top 10 bestsellers, led market trends in the digital space and helped discover and launch multiple publishing brands, including Steven Bartlett (Happy Sexy Millionaire), All on the Board, Professor David Nutt, Hussain Manawer, Africa Brooke and Nick Grimshaw’s Soft Lad, along with the acquisition of Roxie Nafousi’s new book.
Susanna Wadeson will focus on publishing her list of authors and will become publisher for Doubleday Non-Fiction. Wadeson joined Transworld in 2003 and her publishing includes Dame Professor Sue Black, Derren Brown, Bill Bryson and Clover Stroud among others. Wadeson and the non-fiction team will report to Whelan.
Whelan said: "Transworld is iconic in its approach to game-changing, creative, commercial publishing and I can’t wait to part of the family. Leaving Hodder, Hachette, my roster of brilliant authors, team and colleagues and passing on the Yellow Kite and Catalyst baton has been a wrench, but I really couldn’t have hoped for a better ten years.”
Young added: “Lauren is an entrepreneurial thinker and, in what is a complex and changing market, her creative energy and commercial drive are going to be integral to the future of the division.”
