Orion Publishing Group has bought the first official book of award-winning comedy podcast "Dear Joan and Jericha", written by Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine, in a "hotly contested" auction.
Anna Valentine, executive publisher at Orion, acquired world all-language rights from Hannah Linnen and Cathy King at 42 Management and Katie Haines at The Agency (London) Ltd for Dear Joan and Jericha—Why He Turns Away: Do’s and Don’ts from Dating to Death.
Why He Turns Away is described by the publisher as "an unputdownable bible of sex and relationship advice on how to find, satisfy and maintain a husband, from dating right up until death". The book will contain new material and illustrations and be accompanied by a "creative and innovative" audio edition.
Valentine said: "Whether it’s helping us to source appropriate housing for a 'kindercyst', to navigating marrying an uncle, or dealing with a spot of anai calumphus, Joan and Jericha have assisted the nation for years and I’m delighted to help them capture their unique wisdom and advice in print and audio for posterity."
Podcast 'hosts' Joan Damry and Jericha Domain said: "Our dear readers, we proffer this lifeline which we hope, indeed pray, will see you through the darkest hours of your quest for marital harmony," while their creators Davis and Pepperdine added: "To all our dear fans, this book will change your life!"
Davis and Pepperdine are both English comedy actors and writers and their podcast, hosted by Acast, won Best Comedy at the 2019 British Podcast Awards. Trapeze will publish Dear Joan and Jericha - Why He Turns Away: Do’s and Don’ts from Dating to Death in hardback, e-book and audio on 29th October 2020.
