Trewin made literary head at WME

Simon Trewin has been made head of the WME UK literary division, taking over the role vacated by Eugenie Furniss in March. Meanwhile agent Elizabeth Sheinkman has also joined WME's London office, working alongside Cathryn Summerhayes.

Trewin joins WME from United Agents, where he had been a founding agent and director. He said: "I'm proud to be building on WME's incredible legacy by the expansion of its UK literary division. I look forward to bringing new British authors into the fold and working closely with Cathryn and Elizabeth and WME's amazing teams in London, New York and Los Angeles." Trewin's clients at United Agents included Andrew Miller, Danny Wallace, Andrew Motion and the Manchester United Football Club.

Sheinkman joins WME from Curtis Brown where she has represented authors including Steve Toltz, Marcel Theroux, Tim Butcher and Elif Shafak.

WME board member and worldwide literary department co-head Jennifer Rudolph Walsh said: "Both Simon and Elizabeth bring years of experience and literary prowess to our London bench. We feel like we've hit the jackpot with these two, and I'm looking forward to watching our UK book division evolve in this exciting new incarnation."

Meanwhile, at United Agents, Robert Kirby becomes the new head of the literary division, succeeding Trewin. Kirby said: "Simon's a good friend and colleague and we'll miss him. That said, if there is a good time for Simon to move on it is now. We're planning a new phase of development across the company having gone from start up to highly successful agency in just over four years. We're not rushing to acquire new agents having only recently promoted two assistants to associate agents."
