Tripwire magazine is launching graphic novel imprint Tripwire Comics Presents with the release of Sherlock Holmes and the Empire Builders, The Gene Genie from Joel Meadows and Andy Bennett in November 2023.
Originally released in "three shorts" in Tripwire magazine and funded via a crowdfunding campaign, the graphic novel will be the first instalment in a two-part series. The published hardback graphic novel will include new material, character sketches, script pages and an interview revealing extra information about the series.
The "impressive line-up" of artists for the covers and pin-ups include Walt Simonson, whose credits include Thor, Ragnarok and Manhunter, alongside DC’s former art director Mark Chiarello, both of whom will design two different covers. The pin-ups will be designed by Shawn Martinbrough, Liam Sharp, Bill Sienkiewicz and Barry Kitson.
The graphic novel follows Watson who goes to help Francis Crick "unravel the DNA helix" when he finds himself working for "England’s most evil man". The synopsis adds: "Holmes is forced to team up with an unlikely group to defeat this monstrous figure and return England to its status quo."
Meadows commented: “We are very excited to be entering the world of comic publishing. My collaborator and co-creator Andy Bennett is also a very experienced veteran artist with over two decades working professionally in the industry.”
