Charlotte Trumble will join Simon & Schuster UK from Doubleday and Transworld in a newly created role as commissioning editor for the adult fiction team.
She will have a specific remit to build a list of fantasy, romantasy and science fiction which "marks a new area of growth for the S&S fiction list, and an exciting step into a booming part of the market”, the publisher said.
Trumble will take on the newly created role after leaving Transworld, where she has been managing the Terry Pratchett Discworld publishing franchise and published the official biography Terry Pratchett: A Life With Footnotes by Rob Wilkins. She also commissioned and edited a short story collection of lost Pratchett stories alongside Transworld m.d. Larry Finlay.
She has been the magical, speculative and horror editor at Doubleday, and has strong industry contacts across the SFF world. Recently she acquired gothic historical fiction debut Spitting Gold by Carmella Lowkis for Doubleday and queer literary horror novel Freakslaw by Jane Flett.
Clare Hey, publishing director at S&S, said: “I am delighted to be welcoming Charlotte to the team. Her dedication, knowledge and passion for the SFF genre is infectious and all of us at S&S are excited to see her build a list of brilliant new books.”
Trumble said: “I’ll be joining a hugely talented fiction team at S&S and can’t wait to start acquiring an exciting and diverse list of genre books to be proud of. I’m a massive SFF nerd and it’s a dream opportunity to create a brand-new list in this space for such a successful and creative publisher.”
Her first day at S&S UK will be 18th September, and she can be contacted at charlotte.trumble@simonandschuster.co.uk.
