Elizabeth Uviebinené – co-author of Slay in Your Lane (HarperCollins) – is launching a new guided journalling app called Storia.
Uviebinené published Slay in You Lane: The Black Girl Bible in 2018 along with writer Yomi Adegoke. She has published several titles since, including The Offline Diaries (published by HarperCollins, also with Adegoke) and The Reset: Ideas to Change How We Work and Live (Hodder & Stoughton).
Her new platform is designed "to help people find their inner story by organising their thoughts and unlocking their authentic voice".
The digital tool combines AI-guided prompts, on-demand sessions, reflective insights and community connection to provide users with personalised journaling experience. Uviebinené has described the app as "Headspace for journalling".
After running a successful pilot last summer, Uviebinené raised £500,000 from Cornerstone VC and a host of angels participating in the pre-seed round, including the c.e.o. of Wonderbly Asi Sharabi, author Adegoke, ex-NHS Doctor Fiona Pathiraja, managing partner of Denham Capital Scott Mackin, founder of Nubian Skin Ade Hassan MBE and c.e.o. of Belu Natalie Campbell MBE.
The money raised will be used to launch a beta version of Storia, build a community of users and further develop the app’s features.
Uviebinené said: “We all have a unique story that shapes our lives. But in today’s world, we often feel unable to pause, reflect and take in life’s everyday lessons. We’re here to change that. People already use the Notes app to capture their thoughts and ideas. Storia takes that one step further and empowers individuals to find their inner story and authentic voice. We will help people separate the signal from the noise.”
Rodney Appiah, managing partner, added: “Liz’s deep relationships within the writing and publishing community and her ability to tell persuasive stories underpinned by her lived experiences places her in a unique position to build a disruptive journalling app. We look forward to supporting Storia over the coming years and working with the other angel investors who participated in this round.”
