Viking is publishing a new book by presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize winner Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Publishing in September 2018, Viking is calling the title "an accessible and indispensable roadmap for aspiring and established leaders in every field". Entitled Leadership: Lessons from the Presidents for Turbulent Times, it will share "essential lessons" from four of America's presidents—Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson—while exploring their unique journeys, demonstrating how they navigated and grew through adversity.
Viking bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Karolina Sutton at Curtis Brown, on behalf of Amanda Urban at ICM Partners in New York. The book will be published in hardback and audiobook.
Daniel Crewe, publisher at Viking, said: "With Doris Kearns Goodwin's much-loved combination of expertise and panache, this is a revealing exploration of the qualities that these four extraordinary leaders shared. It makes for important and compelling reading in these troubled times."
Goodwin, whose story of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, No Ordinary Time, won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1995, added: “After five decades of studying presidential history, examining these four men through the lens of leadership allowed me to discover so many new things about them that I felt as if I was meeting them for the first time. Their stories have provided me a lifetime of joy as an historian and continue to be a source of great inspiration.”
