Viking has scooped a “brilliantly sharp” new Lucy Barton novel from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout.
Mary Mount bought UK and Commonwealth rights including e-book and audio to Lucy by the Sea from Denise Cronin at Penguin Random House USA. It will be published in the UK on 6th October.
The novel features Lucy Barton, the indomitable heroine of Oh William! and My Name is Lucy Barton. The synopsis says: “Lucy is uprooted from her life in New York City and reluctantly goes into lockdown with her ex-husband William in a house on the coast of Maine.”
The publisher said: “Strout’s new novel is a miraculous work of fiction. A brilliantly sharp evocation of the period we have just lived through, it is a novel that both resonates deeply and consoles us too.”
Strout has sold 506,562 books for £4.3m via Nielsen BookScan in the UK, with Olive Kitteridge (S&S) her bestseller on 164,131 copies sold in paperback.
