Vikki Moynes has been promoted to editorial director for fiction at Viking, and will take on increased responsibility for shaping the list’s offering of commercial authors with “broad appeal”.
Moynes’ focus will be on fantasy, romance and general fiction for a younger female audience. She will also work on the growth of several authors with an already established profile.
The newly appointed editorial director will continue to report into Harriet Bourton, Viking’s publishing director for fiction. Moynes will be supported by assistant editor Lydia Fried across her list of titles.
She commented: “I am so thrilled to be forging my career at Viking, surrounded by a wonderful and passionate team lead by Harriet and Preena, who lead with an inclusive outlook, electric energy and a constant striving towards innovation. It gives me immense joy to continue working with such talented authors and to seek out fresh voices across the full spectrum of commercial literature.”
Moynes has recently overseen the publication of Emily Henry’s Happy Place and Funny Story, as well as Leigh Bardugo’s The Familiar. She also secured the UK rights to the first adult novel by YA author Natasha Ngan, and won a three-way auction as the underbidder for Amy Tordoff’s high-concept speculative love story.
Bourton said: “In her time here, Vikki’s acquisitions have been astute, agile and acclaimed. She has celebrated bestsellers and prize listings, broadening Viking’s portfolio with intention and flair, and thanks to brilliant creative instincts and innate strategic thinking she has launched those authors with market-leading vivacity. Her effervescent energy and thoughtful rigour make her an exceptional publisher, and I’m excited for all she will keep achieving at Viking.”
