Walker Books has partnered with the Scouts to launch the first ever Scouts Book Club, which will be available to more than 220,000 members of the charity organisation.
Kicking off in June 2021 with M G Leonard’s new middle-grade book Twitch, the book club will feature six key Walker middle-grade releases throughout 2021 and 2022.
Each will be accompanied via an activity that focuses on "learning through doing". The authors involved will take part in live or pre-recorded digital readings of their books, and there will be free chapter and audiobook samplers to download. Each book will also be available to buy via the Scouts Stores chain.
Participating scouts will get a book club fun badge, and will have the chance to meet authors at annual national Scouts events.
The 2021 titles launching the Book Club include Football School: Terrific Teams by Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton and Shadowghast: An Eerie-on-Sea Mystery by Thomas Taylor.
Walker head of consumer marketing Jill Kidson said: “We’re thrilled to be working with the Scouts on their first ever book club, putting Walker books into the hands of Cub Scouts and Scouts nationwide, sparking imaginations, and helping to build a fun and engaging community for readers.”
Simon Carter, assistant director at the Scouts, said: “Scouts love a good story and being part of a giant book club gives our young people a chance to discover new stories that will inspire them and help them learn new skills to help them get the most out of life.”
