Waterstones' London stores in Covent Garden and Leadenhall are temporarily closed.
The high street chain, which began reopening branches across the country on 15th June, said the two prime location branches would be shut for now due to reduced footfall in central London.
A spokesperson said: “These are just temporary closures. Footfall in those areas is very low at the moment but we will reopen the shops as soon as customer traffic picks up. “
The retailer has not commented on whether other branches are also affected.
Waterstones operates 240 shops in England, and the chain reopened more than 200 once lockdown measures lifted earlier this month.
