Waterstones has secured a short-term lease for a new store in Blackburn which will be called a "Waterstones Sales Outlet".
The company will open a “cheap and cheerful” version of a standard Waterstones store initially, to see how it performs in the town, before deciding whether to make it a permanent site. It will be around 1500sq ft, selling a mix of current bestsellers at the front of shop, and clearance and bargain books in the rest of the shop. Customers will also be able to order books, but it will be primarily a clerance outlet.
Daunt has told The Bookseller he expects to open six stores this year if expansion intentions go to plan.
