Pulitzer Prize-winner Colson Whitehead, crime novelist Ann Cleeves and Nibbies winner Dapo Adeola are among the authors headlining next year’s London Book Fair.
The 2023 fair will run from 18th to 20th April at Olympia, London. Whitehead will be International Author of the Day, while Cleeves will be Adult Author of the Day, and Adeola will be Illustrator of the Fair. Murder Most Unladylike series creator Robin Stevens has also been announced as Children’s Author of the Day.
Gareth Rapley, director of the London Book Fair, said: “The Authors of the Day and Illustrator of the Fair have long been a beloved mainstay of The London Book Fair, and we are delighted to announce the phenomenal line-up for next year’s event. The London Book Fair has a well-earned reputation for bringing together the best and brightest publishing talent from around the world, and Colson, Ann, Robin, and Dapo perfectly encapsulate the passion, creativity and intelligence to be found within the industry. We cannot wait to welcome them to Olympia next April and look forward to hearing fascinating insights into their own careers, book trends and the future of publishing.”
Cleeves said: “The London Book Fair is always a thrill. Now, it’s a huge honour to be invited to join this year’s line-up of guest authors and I can’t wait to be there with the people, from all over the world, who bring books to readers.”
Adeola added: “I’m beyond honoured to be The London Book Fair’s Illustrator in Residence for 2023. I’m looking forward to all the fun and shenanigans – hopefully there’ll actually be shenanigans. Jokes aside though, The London Book Fair is a staple of the global book world’s calendar and it’s an absolute honour to be actively involved in it.”
The Authors of the Day and Illustrator of the Fair will join “in conversation” events on different days throughout The London Book Fair. Whitehead will be attending the fair on 18th April, Cleeves and Adeola will appear at events on 19th April, and Stevens will be speaking on 20th April. Full details of these sessions will be announced shortly.
