WH Smith has opened the first of three stores at Malta International Airport.
The store, which is located in the airside departures area, was created in partnership with Maltese company Miller Distributors.
WH Smith’s franchise relationship with Miller represents the “renewal of an old partnership”. The pair had a joint venture from the 1940s until the late 1970s, which originally imported press and books for British servicemen stationed in Malta.
WH Smith international director, Louis de Bourgoing, said: “We are delighted to bring the WH Smith brand to Malta. We believe the brand will resonate well with Malta International Airport's passengers, many of whom will have travelled from airports in the UK and Northern Europe where WH Smith already has stores.”
Miller Distributors managing director Malcolm Miller added: “We are looking forward to working with WH Smith to bring an enhanced retail offer to Malta International Airport's passengers. WH Smith will provide significant international expertise and retail best practice, which along with our well-organised operational capability in Malta should prove to be a winning combination.”
WH Smith's latest brand standard and layout will feature at the store.
