Education publisher Wiley has acquired Open Access service provider Knowledge Unlatched for an undisclosed sum.
Berlin-based Knowledge Unlatched provides online services to approve, pay, and manage library and publisher Open Access transactions. The company’s m.d. Sven Fund will continue to lead the business from within Wiley’s research organisation.
Jay Flynn, Wiley executive vice president and general manager for research, said: “Wiley and Knowledge Unlatched share a commitment to making open access simple and easy for everyone. By investing in the future of Knowledge Unlatched, we’re deepening our commitment to an open future.”
“Wiley’s record as a leader in open access, combined with their extensive network of partners and customers, will accelerate Knowledge Unlatched’s growth and ability to innovate,” said Fund.
The acquisition is the latest in a string of buys for Wiley which has seen deals for J&J Editorial, Hindawi, Madgex and Atypon.
