Wiley is partnering with Wikipedia Library to give the site’s editors full-text access to nearly 2,000 academic journals in an effort to produce better citations and more accurate content on Wikipedia.
Under the scheme, top Wikipedia editors will be chosen based on the frequency, volume and quality of their updates to the website. They will be able to cite and link directly to Wiley resources across Wikipedia articles.
A spokesperson for Wiley said: “Connecting directly with users who begin their research journey outside the traditional scholarly ecosystem—publisher sites, indexing services, library discovery tools and so on—is one way we can work to combat misinformation and reinforce the value of scholarship.”
Sam Walton, product manager at the Wikimedia Foundation, added: “The trustworthiness and reliability of Wikipedia is built on a foundation of high-quality research. We are excited to work with the Wiley online library to provide Wikipedia’s community of volunteer editors around the world access to Wiley’s 1,600+ journals, 22,000 online books and hundreds of reference works.”
