Hodder & Stoughton has appointed Andy Lyon, currently editorial director for religious publishing at William Collins, as publishing director for Christian publishing list Hodder Faith. He will take up the role in January 2017.
At William Collins Lyon had responsibility for the Bibles, Music and Liturgical list as well as the bestselling C S Lewis titles, and also commissioned a select range of new books including the 2016 Speaking Volumes Christian Book of the Year, The Shed That Fed A Million Children by Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, the new editions of Celtic Daily Prayer from the Northumbria Community and the forthcoming spiritual diaries of the late Pope St John Paul II.
Ian Metcalfe, who has been with Hodder & Stoughton since 2008 and publishing director since 2011, takes on the new role of chairman for Hodder Faith. He will continue to work closely on the New International Version Bible range, and with a number of "key" authors as well as on special projects.
Metcalfe said: "Despite challenging trading conditions in the Christian market, we grew significantly last year with a range of Christian market and general trade bestsellers from Jonathan Sacks’ Not in God’s Name to Brian Houston’s Live Loved Lead. So we are delighted to build on that success with this new appointment. Andy’s arrival puts us in a really strong position to act on the great new publishing and sales initiatives we’re planning for 2017 and beyond."
Lyon said: "It is an honour to be given this opportunity. A new year is a great time for a big new challenge and I am excited that I will be starting 2017 at the heart of the ambitious, focused and specialist team at Hodder Faith. I can’t wait to get started."
Nick Davies, m.d. of John Murray Press, the publishing division to which Hodder Faith belong, added: "I'm delighted to be welcoming Andy, who further strengthens our market-leading team, and keeping Ian’s expertise in the building at this time of growth and investment for John Murray Press as a whole."
