Hachette Children's imprint Wren & Rook will publish Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon, a collection of notes and essays written and curated by actress and mental health ambassador Rosie Day.
Inspired by conversations Day has had with teenage girls during her time as an ambassador of mental health charity stem4, Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon will teach girls how to not only survive their teenage years, but thrive, said the publisher.
Alongside Day's own writing and illustrations from Nadia Akingbule, the book will feature notes, letters and personal essays from other activists, actors, writers, and experts, including Sara Pascoe, Tanya Reynolds, Kosar Ali, Jade Anouka, Gemma Styles, Susan Wokoma, Mia Mckenna Bruce, Eris Baker, Chloe Lukasiak, Alexa Davies, Nell Hudson, Amika George and Ruby Bhogal.
Hachette Children’s Group secured UK and Commonwealth rights from Anna Dixon at the WME Agency in a multi-publisher auction. Publication is slated for 14th October 2021.
Ruth Alltimes, senior trade publisher at Hachette Children’s Group, said: "We are delighted to be publishing this book with Rosie and an incredible list of inspiring women. It’s exactly the kind of collection that girls growing up in our increasingly complicated world need. This one-stop guide covers a range of themes, from identity to mental health, hormones to happiness, activism to imposter syndrome and more. It will prepare teenage girls to feel like warriors, ready to take on the world!"
Day, known for her role in Starz's "Outlander", commented: "Statistics show the self-esteem of teenage girls has never been lower than right now. I’ve written and curated Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon for the young women who often feel overlooked and unheard. I hope this book will help them feel empowered and able to unleash their inner power and stage their own rebellion. It’s a compilation of writing from myself and some of the fiercest women I know, writing on everything from knowing your self-worth and the importance of girl power and navigating tricky relationships, to managing your workload, tips for dealing with stress and fall outs and discovering how to find your voice. I truly believe in the power of teenage girls, and I hope after reading this book, they do too."
