The YA Book Prize 2024 is now open for entries and is looking to celebrate the best Young Adult fiction titles from the UK and Ireland published last year.
This year also marks the prize’s 10th anniversary since its launch by The Bookseller magazine in 2014. It is the third year the YA Book Prize has been run in association with Edinburgh International Book Festival (EIBF).
A 10-strong shortlist will be revealed in June and all the shortlisted authors will appear at EIBF in August. The winner will be announced in a live ceremony at the festival on Thursday 22nd August. A judging panel of experts, led by The Bookseller’s staff writer Katie Fraser and featuring EIBF’s children and schools programmes director Rachel Fox, will pick the recipient of the £2,000 award.
Last year, Danielle Jawando’s coming-of-age novel When Our Worlds Collided (Simon & Schuster Children’s) took the prize. Jawando told The Bookseller: "Winning the YA Book Prize is something I only could have dreamed of. When Our Worlds Collided was such a difficult book to write, so it was an honour and a privilege to win such a prestigious award. The prize has already opened up so many doors for me, but most importantly, it has helped my books to reach even more teen readers. I’ll be forever grateful!"
Previous winners include Adiba Jaigirdar, Alice Oseman, Juno Dawson and Patrice Lawrence.
Entries are open to titles published between 1st January and 31st December 2023 that are aimed at readers aged between 16 to 24 years old and written by an author resident in the UK or Ireland. Self-published books are not eligible and entries must be made by publishers. Each publisher is allowed to enter up to four titles per imprint or company.
More information, including full entry details and terms and conditions, can be found on the YA Book Prize website. Entries close on Friday 22nd March 2024.
