The British Book Awards - aka the Nibbies - celebrates its 35th birthday this year. The Nibbies has always championed the world of reading, showcasing authors and illustrators who have captured the nation's imagination as well as celebrating the industry who work with creativity, passion and power to connect readers to stories.
Founded by Publishing News in 1990, the Awards broke the mould for literary prizes, by highlighting literary merit, commercial success and publishing excellence, and the teams behind-the-scenes who bring books to readers. Since then Nibbies have been bestowed upon the absolute best writers across fiction, non-fiction and children's writing, including Salman Rushdie, Katherine Rundell, Bernardine Evaristo, Davina McCall, GT Karber & Sally Rooney.
Of the anniversary, editor of The Bookseller and Chair of The British Book Awards Philip Jones said, ''The Nibbies is built by you: the writers, illustrators, publishers, booksellers, agents and all who reach readers, move hearts and brighten minds every day. In 2025 we’ll honour all that you do, at a moment when telling stories, and finding homes for them, has never felt more important."
