Fourth Estate is releasing a “major” new title from Nigel Slater, A Cook's Book, this autumn.
Released on 14th October 2021, A Cook’s Book is the story of Slater’s life in the kitchen, “from the first jam tart he made with his mum, as he was standing on a chair trying to reach the Aga, through to what he is cooking now”.
The publisher said: “He writes about how his cooking has changed, from discovering the trick to whipping cream perfectly to realising the very best way to roast a chicken. Nigel gives the tales behind the recipes and recalls the first time he ate a glorious baguette in Paris to taking 20 minutes in the day for tea and biscuits to refresh, rejuvenate and get back on track.”
It features the chef's favourite recipes he regularly cooks at home. Chapters include The Solace of Soup, Everyday Dinners, Sometimes You Just Want Pie, Vegetarian and Vegan Feasts, plus sections on ultimate puddings and cakes.
“This is Nigel Slater writing and cooking at his sublime best and A Cook’s Book is a balm for the soul,” said Fourth Estate.
The book was signed as part of a two-book deal with the publisher when it acquired 2019's Greenfeast. Slater has sold 2.9 million print books for £38.7m in the UK through Nielsen Bookscan's UK Total Consumer Market since 1998. His bestseller is 2013's Eat, (Fourth Estate) on 278,583 copies sold in hardback.
Head of non-fiction Louise Haines said: "There is so much wisdom on how to cook in every sentence of this book. And it is joyous to read and cook from."
