Hamlyn has acquired 60 Years of Coronation Street by Abigail Kemp – an official celebration of the show’s six decades billed as "the most thorough and entertaining Coronation Street book ever published".
Octopus publishing director Trevor Davies acquired world rights from Shirley Patton, head of publishing at ITV Studios. It will be published as a £20 hardback on 29th October 2020 in time for the show’s anniversary on 9th December.
Described as an "exhaustive, compelling and entertaining" history, the book will take readers through every year in a timeline highlighting key plot lines and significant production events, together with over 500 images. Also included will be features on characters, births, deaths, marriages and murders, and interviews with actors, producers and production staff.
A special section on "Coronation Street" creator Tony Warren is also planned to show how the programme evolved from page to screen. Special gatefold pages open out showing how the set has developed over the years as well as family trees of the major characters.
Davies said: "We are thrilled to be publishing the 'Coronation Street' 60th anniversary book. This book will coincide with ITV’s celebrations of 60 years of drama and entertainment from the famous cobbles. The staff at the show have been fantastic in supporting the book’s production. We’ve had access to behind the scenes, 'Coronation Street' files and artefacts, and we’ve also got exclusive content from Tony Warren’s archive, which means the book will be a real treasure trove for all Corrie fans."
"Coronation Street" producer Iain MacLeod said of the book: "This book will be such a treat for fans of 'Coronation Street', packed as it is with backstage insight and brilliant highlights from across the show’s six decades. On a personal level, it was a huge privilege to be asked to contribute, even in a small way, to this incredible testament to the nation’s favourite street. I am so excited about our anniversary and I know our fans are too — and this book is an excellent tribute to this world record-breaking milestone."
