Abacus signs memoir from actor Russell Beale

Abacus has signed A Piece of Work, the first book from actor Simon Russell Beale.

Ursula Mackenzie, c.e.o, acquired world rights from Eugenie Furniss at 42 Management & Production. Originally signed by Mackenzie 20 years ago, publication is scheduled for September 2024.

A Piece of Work is a "funny, touching and insightful" account of Beale’s acting career, with a focus on his time playing Shakespeare characters "from early days as a particularly glamourous Desdemona, in a school production of ’Othello’, to the title roles in ’Hamlet’, ’Macbeth’ and ’King Lear’". The book will also cover his work in film including his role in "The Death of Stalin".
