Ad Lib has landed Jennifer McAdam’s "astonishing" true story of how she confronted "CryptoQueen" Ruja Ignatova in Devil’s Coin.
Editorial director Duncan Proudfoot acquired UK and Ireland rights from from Rachel Mills at Rachel Mills Literary Ltd. The book will be published on 8th August 2023. McAdam wrote the book with Douglas Thompson.
The publisher said: "Jen McAdam was a victim of the OneCoin global cryptocurrency fraud, which stole an estimated $27bn from ordinary people around the world. The evil genius of the scam was its target, society’s ‘unbanked’, not wealthy investors, and it robbed millions of their livelihoods and futures. The poor became poorer. The brutal plundering led by self-styled ’CryptoQueen’ Ruja Ignatova defied all legal and banking barriers, bamboozling financial authorities — until Jen McAdam fought back."
The story is set to become a "major" film directed by Scott Z Burns whose credits include "Contagion" and "The Bourne UItimatum".
Proudfoot said: "The focus of Jen’s book is on the large number of poor victims of the OneCoin scam, and how they have been failed by the financial and other authorities who should have been acting to protect them. Even now, Jen continues to campaign to try to restore to victims at least some of what they have lost."
