Profile Books has nabbed The Curious Columns of Adrian Chiles, a collection of musings by the Guardian columnist and broadcaster.
Associate publisher Mark Ellingham acquired world all-language rights from Avalon, and the book will be published on 10th October 2024.
"The Curious Columns of Adrian Chiles finds Britain’s much-loved broadcaster musing on the sacred and the profane, the whimsical and the bizarre, offering his idiosyncratic take on self-checkouts, speeding tickets and the correct duration of a hug, falling into a bed of wild garlic, and discovering he has a naked doppelgänger on OnlyFans," the synopsis says. "In this brilliant bumper collection, he takes us on a bright, bemused tour of British life, delivering offbeat truths and a comforting blast of humour and warmth for baffling times."
Ellingham said: "It’s no exaggeration to say that Adrian’s columns in the Guardian have acquired cult status. You never have a clue what he might be writing about – a favourite spoon one week, Croatian words for genitalia the next. The columns are truthful and touching, like the man himself, and curious in every sense of the word. We at Profile couldn’t be more pleased to publish them. The Christmas stocking problem is sorted."
Chiles added: "Most Wednesday mornings I wake up in a state of fear with no idea what on earth I’m going to write. That I ever think of anything comes as some surprise to me. That anyone reads them and even enjoys them is astounding. Ultimately I’m prouder of these columns than anything else I’ve ever done in a long career broadcasting and writing. And here they are all in one place."
