Big Picture Press, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has magicked up Faedom: Enter the World of Fairies by Agnes Monod-Gayraud and Lorna White, illustrated by Nadzeya Makeyeva.
Former publisher Jo McInerney acquired world all-language rights from Lorna Hemingway at Bell Lomax Agency. Faedom will be published in hardback in November 2024.
Matt Ralphs, senior commissioning editor, said: "Faedom presents fairies in a delightfully fresh way, mixing myth, legend and new ideas on these age-old creatures."
Inspired by old myths, Faedom draws upon cultural and literary references from across the globe to create a "comprehensive compendium" of fairies. The book includes stories, songs, poems, fact and folklore.
Monod-Gayraud commented: "The fae govern the world of the unseen and Faedom reveals the magic that lies beneath the miracles of nature and our everyday lives, from the city to the country and all the way across the cosmos. Faedom is a cosmological compendium of all the miracles of our world as told through the ancient powers that both drive and represent them – the fairies of Faedom.”
White added: “Having two daughters, I wanted to tell them stories about fairies that would resonate, and when Agnes and I came up with Faedom it was a true privilege to be able to create these unique fairies inspired by myths and nature, and to educate children on the natural world and how it works around us.”
Makeyeva said: "I think Faedom is the most complicated and desired art project of my life. Each illustration took more than 30 hours of work. If it weren’t for editorial constraints, I would still be perfecting them to this day!”
