Allison & Busby has scooped a two-book deal with mother and daughter writing duo, Anna and Jacqui Burns.
Publishing manager Lesley Crooks acquired world rights from Bill Goodall at Bill Goodall Literary Agency. Poles Apart, the first book in the deal, will be published in March 2024 with the second book to follow that autumn.
"I have loved this book from the moment it arrived in my inbox," said Goodall. "With characters that readers will care about, it’s a breath of fresh air, and I couldn’t be more delighted that it has found a home with the enthusiastic team at Allison and Busby."
Poles Apart is set in the Pembrokeshire village of Morlan where the arrival of a pole dancing exercise class offers the women of the village a "chance to bond and discover previously hidden strengths".
The synopsis continues: "Gwen seems to have it all but how will she cope when her marriage hits the rocks? Meg would love not to be single, but her recent operation has left her confidence shot to pieces. Recently widowed Ivy is fed up with following the rules, but at 72 can she really change her ways? Mum of two Summer is desperate for some time to herself outside her home. Together the group form a bond of friendship that will stand them in good stead when facing the trials and tribulations of their personal lives."
Crooks commented: "Poles Apart pulled me into the circle of engaging and relatable female characters at its heart. I love how it focuses on the power of friendship and community in such an effortlessly charming way."
The Burns added: We were both very happy to be signed by Allison and Busby, such a well-renowned publisher. We loved writing Poles Apart and can’t wait for readers to share this story."
