Allison & Busby has signed a two-book deal with début author Emma Orchard, the pen name for agent and LBA co-founder Alison Bonomi.
Lesley Crooks, publishing manager, acquired world rights from Diana Beaumont at the Marjacq Agency. The Second Lady Silverwood will be published in April 2023 with The Runaway Heiress following in October 2023.
The first instalment in Orchard’s “hot” Regency series follows Sir Benedict Silverwood who “needs a new wife, an heir and a mother for his young daughter”. Although the “outlandish” Kate Moreton is suggested, the idea begins to grow on Benedict while Kate has already been in love with him for years. The publisher continued: “When Kate steps into her new life as Benedict’s wife, sparks fly, though it becomes clear that there are incendiary secrets that threaten their fragile new life together. So, will he be able to love and trust the second Lady Silverwood?”
Crooks commented: “It was obvious to me on first reading The Second Lady Silverwood that the author was as much a devotee of Georgette Heyer as myself, while injecting a modern wit and warmth into her fictional world. The chemistry between her very flesh-and-blood characters was palpable and I cheered for them, fell for them and occasionally wanted to shake them. I am certain that romance fans are about to embark on a lasting love affair with Emma Orchard and her novels.
Bonomi added: “I’ve been reading Regency romance since I was 11, and anyone who knows me, especially from Twitter, can’t help but be aware of my Heyer obsession. So finally being published in my favourite genre is a lifelong dream come true! I’m so grateful to Diana and Lesley for making this happen, and I know my novel couldn’t be in better hands.”
