Amanda Gorman, the youngest presidential inaugural poet in US history, will provide the foreword for a new edition of Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s I Have a Dream.
The collectable edition will be published by HarperCollins, and will be the first title to be published under the company’s new Martin Luther King Jr Library imprint. Additionally, a keepsake daily writing practice, The Dream Journal, inspired by the life and words of King, will be published as a companion piece. Harper360 will publish both titles in the UK on 7th July.
Judith Curr, HarperOne group president and publisher, negotiated the deal for the MLK archives with the King estate. She said: “Amanda Gorman’s writing has inspired readers around the world. We could not be prouder to have her powerful words as part of this landmark publication – one that exemplifies the Martin Luther King Jr Library’s aim to connect readers across generations with Dr King’s singular body of work.”
In a deal announced last June, HarperCollins became the official publisher of King’s archives. The agreement includes world rights to publish from the archives across all formats, including children’s books, e-books, audio books, journals and graphic novels, in all languages. All books published as part of the deal will be published under the Martin Luther King Jr Library imprint.
HarperCollins published King’s first book, Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story in 1958. The company went on to publish several more titles from King, including Strength to Love in 1963.
