Amazon imprint signs three-book deal with Fielden

Amazon Publishing imprint Thomas & Mercer has signed a deal for a three-book series of mystery novels from author TP Fielden.

Editor Jack Butler acquired world English rights from Gordon Wise at Curtis Brown for the books by Fielden, a pseudonym for royal biographer Christopher Wilson. First title Stealing the Crown, to be published in print, e-book, and audio in summer 2020, and two more to follow.

The publisher explained: “Stealing the Crown is a closed-door mystery set inside Buckingham Palace in 1940. While the outside world bravely endures the travails of war, Major Edgar Brampton is found dead in his office within the palace after being overlooked for the post of private secretary to the Duke of Gloucester. The determination is suicide, but when his body is secretly hurried away and the palace staff are ordered not to say a word, something doesn’t ring true.”

Butler said: “I am so excited to be working with Christopher whose Miss Dimont mysteries under the TP Fielden pseudonym have delighted countless readers with their wit and charm. This new series, starting with Stealing the Crown, absolutely jumps off the page, and I was immediately swept up by the tumultuous World War Two setting and unique upstairs-downstairs insight into Buckingham Palace.”

Wilson has worked for the Times, Daily Telegraph, and Daily Mail and penned histories of the Windsors, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles, and Princess Diana. As TP Fielden, he also wrote the HQ-published Miss Dimont trilogy about a local newspaper reporter who solves crimes.

He said: “This is an exciting opportunity to bring together my fiction-writing skills and a lifetime’s knowledge of the House of Windsor. While the main theme revolves around the death of Major Brampton, the backstory contains quite a few revelations – all based on fact - for avid fans of royalty.”
