Andersen Press has swooped for Most Haunted Theatres, the first in a "fun, spooky" series from former "Blue Peter" presenter Yvette Fielding and illustrator Hannah Shaw.
Publishing director Charlie Sheppard acquired world rights for the text in a two-book deal from Kate Walsh at United Agents, illustrator Hannah Shaw is represented by Jodie Hodges also at United Agents. Most Haunted Theatres will be published in February 2024 with a "major" press and media campaign planned with Most Haunted Castles, the second book in the series, slated for publication in autumn 2024.
For readers aged 10 and over, Most Haunted Theatres charts Fielding’s quest to uncover the ghostly histories of the nine theatres featured in the book. Pitched for fans of the Horrible Histories series, the book also includes "funny [and] gruesome" illustrations from Shaw.
Fielding also presented a reality television series "Most Haunted", produced by her husband Karl Beattie, which ran for 25 series. The affiliated YouTube channel has 117,000 subscribers.
Sheppard commented: “We’ve heard from Yvette’s fans that children are crying out for fun, spooky reads that bring stories of ghosts and ghouls to life. So what better way to do this than by mining Yvette’s own experiences of ghost-hunting? We’ve paired her stories with illustrations from the brilliant Hannah Shaw to create the perfect book for Horrible Histories fans with Yvette’s own accounts included. We can’t wait to spook a whole new generation of children with this brilliant Most Haunted series for kids!”
Fielding added: “As ’Most Haunted’ is being shown on different streaming platforms we’re seeing lots and lots of brand-new, young fans to the series, and I’ve been desperate to write something for them that captures all of the thrills and chills I’ve had investigating in theatres over the years – there’s something about them, there’s always a story or two behind the scenes! I can’t wait to get out there and meet my young paranormal fans."
