Andersen Press will next year publish a second Fergal picture book by Robert Starling after selling rights to the first title, Fergal is Fuming, in its 18th language.
Just before Frankfurt Book Fair, which took place last week, Andersen sold Greek rights following on from deals in territories such as the US, France, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Denmark, Japan, Korea, China and Azerbaijan.
The book was shortlisted for this year’s Waterstones Children’s Book Prize this year as well as the Klaus Flugge Prize for for newcomers in children’s book illustration.
The second title Fergal in a Fix will be released in September 2019 and will show Fergal going to Dragon Day-Camp. Fergal is worried about meeting other dragons and trying new things but he learns that being aware of others’ feelings is more important than simply trying to win.
Sue Buswell, publishing director of picture books at Andersen Press, said: “It’s really heartening to see Fergal as a flaming hot hit internationally, to sell 18 languages on a debut picture book is fantastic, and in hot pursuit Fergal in a Fix is lining up to be equally attractive to international publishers.”
