Novelist and former soldier Andy McNab is working with Phil Earle on a new middle-grade fiction title for Scholastic.
Get Me Out Of Here!, which will be illustrated by Robin Boyden, is about Danny Mack and his friends. When the school announces a trip to extreme outdoor adventure area Go Wild, Danny and his friends are very excited. Little do they know that their adventure is going to involve a toilet that is a bucket in a tent and that dock leaves are almost indistinguishable from stinging nettles.
McNab said: “I know how much I missed out in my own childhood so I really wanted to make some children’s books that everyone could enjoy – and make sure we get beyond the middle-class culture where reading is just a normal part of life. I’m thrilled that Phil and Scholastic are going to share this new mission.”
Sam Smith, publisher at Scholastic, and commissioning editor Fiz Osborne acquired two books from Philippa Milnes-Smith at LAW (McNab’s agent) and Jodie Hodges at United Agents. Boyden is represented by Charlie Bowden at Pickled Ink.
McNab is the author of the adult bestsellers Bravo Two Zero and Immediate Action and previously published children’s books with Random House Children’s Books, while Earle has published children’s titles with Orion Children’s and Barrington Stoke.
Get Me Out Of Here! will be published in May 2019 and supported by a major publicity and marketing campaign.
