Angry Robot has soared away with Bluebird, a 'sassy and quippy' debut by Ciel Pierlot.
The publisher acquired world English-language and audio rights in a deal negotiated with Lauren Spieller of Triada US Literary Agency. Bluebird will be published on 8th February 2022.
Its synopsis reads: "Three factions vie for control of the galaxy. Rig, a gunslinging, thieving rebel with a cause, doesn’t give a damn about them and she hasn’t looked back since abandoning her faction three years ago. That is, until her former faction sends her a message: return what she stole from them, or her twin sister will die. Rig embarks on a journey across the galaxy to save her sister—but for once, she’s not alone. She has help from her network of resistance contacts, her taser-wielding librarian girlfriend, and a mysterious bounty hunter. If Rig fails, trillions of lives will be lost, including her sister's. But if she succeeds, she might just pull the whole damn faction system down around their ears. Either way, she’s going to do it with panache and pizzazz."
Editor Gemma Creffield said: "I loved this book from the first page. It’s sassy and quippy and a whole lot of fun. Ciel’s writing is brilliant and doesn’t read like a debut at all. She is going to have a great writing career and we’re so excited to have her on our list."
Pierlot commented: "Putting my debut novel through the publishing paces has been one wild ride. I’m tickled pink to have Bluebird be in the hands of the fine folks at Angry Robot, who are just as invested in my silly space lesbians as I am, and as I hope readers will be."
