Angry Robot has landed Project Hanuman, a “bold” science fiction novel that blends Indian mythology and classic space opera, from Stewart Hotston.
Publisher Eleanor Teasdale acquired world English-language rights, physical and ebook, from John Baker at Bell Lomax Moreton for publication in winter 2025.
“I’ve been a long admirer of Stewart’s huge writing talent and incredible imagination, and constantly blown away by the work he does for the betterment of our industry,” said Baker. “Project Hanuman is exactly the kind of fresh and exciting space opera that the fans are crying out for – bring on November 25!”
Project Hanuman is a reimagination of the tale of the monkey god Hanuman and an exploration of a utopian galactic society. The story follows an Interlocutor, a translator between the utopia and the outsiders.
Hotston, treasurer of the British Fantasy Society and member of Diversity in Publishing, commented: “I’m beyond excited to bring this story to the world – with planets made of gold, ring worlds, epic battles and a crew who are absolutely not friends, I can’t wait for people to meet Hanuman, Kercher and Prab as they try to survive a disaster that destroys everything they know.”
Teasdale added: “I am so thrilled that Stewart is publishing Project Hanuman with us – it’s smartly written and gorgeously world-built with a dying ship holding the legacy of a digital utopia and the race against time to save it.”
