Angry Robot has struck a two-book deal with Daniel Church with The Ravening and The Sound of the Dark.
Editor Simon Spanton signed world physical, audio, e-book and translation rights from Meg Davis at Ki Agency. The Ravening will be published in November 2024 and The Sound of the Dark will follow in winter 2025.
Spanton commented: "Daniel Church makes horror immediate and heartfelt by putting you into familiar surroundings, alongside characters you immediately recognise and then throwing you into a tight timeframe at the centre of a vortex of rapidly increasing real and supernatural horrors. It’s a masterly balancing act – proven with his novel The Hollows and repeated now with The Ravening. It’s both a privilege and huge fun to publish him, and Angry Robot are thrilled to be part of a new resurgence in the horror genre.”
Church also writes under the name Simon Bestwick. Church is currently nominated for the British Fantasy Award’s Best Horror Novel for The Hollows (Angry Robot). The Ravening sees him return "to the land of page-turning horror thrillers" as two women fight to break a thousand year old curse. The synopsis continues: "The Ravening combines cinematic horrors with a compelling story of one woman’s refusal to give up and another woman’s fight for survival against terrible odds…"
"The combination of a brilliant writer, Simon Bestwick (Daniel Church) and the powerhouse which is Angry Robot, make a force to be reckoned with," said Davis. "I’m delighted this partnership is going so strong."
Church added: "I’m absolutely delighted to be working with the Angry Robot team again. They did amazing work with The Hollows and their enthusiasm for The Ravening has been fantastic. I can’t wait to take our relationship to the next level."
