Carnegie Medal-winner Anthony McGowan will once again be published by Barrington Stoke which has bagged the rights to his latest young adult novel, The Beck.
Ailsa Bathgate, publisher at Barrington Stoke, acquired the rights from Charlie Campbell at Greyhound Literary.
McGowan’s Carnegie Medal-winning Lark was described by the judges as a “stand-alone masterpiece”.
The Beck is described by Barrington Stoke as “a touching and life-affirming story in which McGowan’s trademark lyricism, humour and warmth perfectly balance the darker themes of bullying and ecocide”.
McGowan said: “I’ve been lucky to have worked with many great publishers over the years, but Barrington Stoke has always felt, to me, like home. My earlier work with Barrington Stoke strove to draw in my readers with stories of struggle, suffering and eventual redemption. The Beck is a little different. Its goals are to amuse and entertain, but also to help us to appreciate the wonders of the natural world.”
