Aria Fiction, an imprint of Head of Zeus, has acquired world English rights to three books by Eimear Lawlor from Kate Nash at The Kate Nash Agency.
The first book in the new deal, Dublin’s Girl, will be published in e-book on 28th January 2021, with the paperback to follow in April 2021.
Inspired by the author’s own family history, the novel will be set in Dublin in 1917, and will follow Veronica McDermott, a young woman who is recruited to type for Eamon de Valera, and is soon caught up in the danger and intrigue of those fighting for Ireland’s independence. When she catches the eye of a young British soldier, Veronica is tasked with earning his affections and reporting back. But when she begins to fall for the dashing young soldier, she will have to make a choice: love or loyalty?
Hannah Smith, editorial director, said: "I remember reading Dublin’s Girl in the height of lockdown, and it was exactly the escapist read I needed. It is full of everything I love about historical fiction; a strong heroine, a high-stakes romance and that smidge of espionage that heightens the drama and tension throughout the story. Eimear is a truly incredible talent, and author we are beyond thrilled to have on the Aria list."
Lawlor said: "I’m thrilled to have signed a three-book deal with Aria and found the perfect publisher for Dublin’s Girl. This story is very close to my heart, as my great-aunt herself typed for Eamon de Valera. The energy and enthusiasm of Rhea and Hannah has been fantastic, and I am absolutely delighted to be part of Aria Fiction. I’m looking forward to working with them on future novels."
