Arrow has bought two books from Fiona Ford which are set in London's historic Liberty department store.
Deputy publisher Emily Griffin acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to two new titles in Fiona Ford’s Liberty Girls saga series from Kate Burke at Blake Friedmann Literary, TV and Film Agency.
Set in Liberty during the Second World War, the series follows the fortunes of a group of women working in the iconic Carnaby Street retailer.
Arrow launched Christmas at Liberty’s, the first in the saga series, in paperback and e-book in November 2018. The second title in the series, The Liberty Girls, is set to publish in May 2019 and the first title in the new deal will publish in January 2020.
Ford spent many years as a journalist writing for women’s weekly and monthly magazines. She has written two novels under the pseudonym, Fiona Harrison, for HQ and her first two sagas were acquired by Orion after a four-way auction in 2016.
Ford said of the deal: "I’m beyond thrilled that the adventures of the Liberty girls will carry on. The way people have taken the characters to their hearts has far and away exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait to continue this journey with everyone at Arrow."
Griffin said: "Working with Fiona on the Liberty Girls series has been a complete joy. Her books are fresh, uplifting, full of triumph and heartache as well as a cast of relatable characters whom you root for from the off – and the reader response so far has been wonderful. The series occupies a unique space on Arrow’s saga list and our sights are firmly fixed on continued sales growth – I can’t wait to see where Fiona takes her characters next."
