Attenborough's Life on Earth updated after 40 years

William Collins has signed a “significant deal” for a new edition of Sir David Attenborough’s Life on Earth.

Myles Archibald, publishing director for the HarperCollins imprint, bought world rights in all languages for an undisclosed sum from Attenborough’s representatives. It will be published this autumn almost 40 years after the BBC series and original book.
 
The title will be updated to “acknowledge the environmentally conscious world we now live in as well as the latest scientific research from around the globe”. Attenborough’s text will be complemented by new photography throughout, telling the extraordinary story of our natural world.
 
He said: “This is the greatest story ever, the story of the development of life on earth. This new edition takes account of modern scientific discoveries and will be illustrated in a much greater and fuller way than we did nearly 40 years ago. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
 
Archibald added: “Life on Earth is the greatest living storyteller telling the greatest story – the evolution of the living world in all its variety and beauty. It is great science writing, as Sir David tells a complicated story with clarity and insight. I cannot think of a book that I could be prouder to publish.”
