Audible has snapped up what it calls a “powerful" feminist retelling of Arthurian legend in a vivid trilogy by debut author Sophie Keetch.
Harry Scoble, senior manager of publishing at Audible, acquired world English audio rights from Marina de Pass at The Soho Agency. The first audiobook in the trilogy, Morgan Is My Name, will be released in May 2022. Oneworld will be releasing the print and e-book edition in 2023 after Jenny Parrott bought UK and British Commonwealth rights.
The trilogy will be told from the perspective of traditional Arthurian antagonist and sorceress Morgan Le Fay, casting the story of Camelot, Merlin and King Arthur in a new light. Morgan Is My Name will see Morgan coming of age and struggling to assert herself in a world which seeks to control her. As she discovers her own magical potential, it becomes clear that she is somehow connected to the boy who has just pulled the sword from the stone, setting both on a dangerous trajectory which will live on in legend.
Aurelie De Troyer, s.v.p. of international English content at Audible, said: “Sophie Keetch is an exciting new talent and Morgan is My Name starts off this fantastic trilogy with a bang. Arthur and Merlin usually take centrestage but this is unapologetically Morgan’s own story, told in her own voice ,and that’s what makes this such a compelling listen.”
Keetch added: “I am thrilled that the Morgan trilogy has found such a supportive and enthusiastic home at Audible. Morgan le Fay is a fascinating, complex character of Arthurian legend and it was her contradictions, along with the challenges she faced as an extraordinary woman in a man’s world, that inspired the writing of these books. I couldn’t be more excited to see my version of her story come to life.”
