South London-based publisher Avery Hill Publishing has scooped two graphic novels for its autumn list, The Scrapbook of Life and Death by J Webster Sharp and Adrift on a Painted Sea by Tim Bird.
Co-publisher and commissioning editor Ricky Miller acquired world rights to both titles directly from the authors. Sharp’s book will be released on 3rd September 2024 in paperback, while Bird’s work will be published on 1st October 2024 as a softcover with french flaps.
Sharp’s The Scrapbook of Life and Death is described as "the monstrosity of life explored through the strangeness of Edwardian England and the cartoonist’s own mental illness" while Bird’s Adrift on a Painted Sea is a graphic memoir about "family, loss, and art".
Miller said of the new list: “We’re continuing our tradition of both discovering new talent and giving long-term support for creators’ careers this fall with an extraordinary debut graphic novel from J Webster Sharp and a stand-out new autobiographical story from Tim Bird, the first author Avery Hill ever published."
